Waze is great for letting you know about traffic holdups en-route, but when a major event leads to road closures, options for avoiding the traffic chaos can be limited. That’s why the company has announced a new program to allow event organizers to notify Waze of road closures in advance, to help users stay well clear of them when planning journeys …
The program is launching with 20 partners, including major sports teams and marathons.
We’re kicking the program off with 20 inaugural partners spanning North America, Latin America, Eastern Europe, and Asia. [These include] E15 and its five professional sports team partners: Atlanta Falcons (Georgia Dome), Washington Redskins (FedEx Field), Detroit Lions (Ford Field), Washington Nationals (Nationals Park), and Atlanta Hawks (Phillips Arena) [along with] Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon Series’ 30 global events, including New York, Montreal, Mexico City, and Madrid.
There is no charge for event oganizers, a move Waze says is designed to maximize participation. Those interested in signing-up to the program can do so here.
You can check out closures already in the system by visiting www.waze.com/events.
