Counterpoint Research includes the snippet in a new report today.
Apple iPhones remain the most popular models across both online and offline channels.
The report is focused on performance of the online sales channel, so doesn’t go into more detail than that on brand comparisons, looking instead at retailer websites.
There, it notes that apple.com did see the expected downturn in online sales, sitting in 4th place with 8% of online smartphone sales. Amazon took the top slot, at 23% of the market, followed by Verizon at 12% and Best Buy’s 9%.
It noted that, in general, more premium smartphones are bought online rather than offline, though Apple did skew the numbers.
Online sales in the mid-tier and upper mid-tier price band segments have higher shares compared to offline sales [while] offline sales tend to do better at the low end […] However, online sales in [the premium] segment are mainly driven by Apple’s online store and to a lesser extent Samsung’s.
The worldwide picture is a little different, where Gartner reports that Huawei overtook Apple in Q2, a position guaranteed to be reversed in Q3.
