PSA: iOS 18.2 beta is limited to AI-compatible iPhones for now

Apple has released the first beta for iOS 18.2. It includes powerful new Apple Intelligence features like Genmoji, ChatGPT integration, and more. But before heading to your Settings app, there’s one important limitation to know: the beta is currently limited to AI-compatible iPhones.

Only six iPhone models can currently run iOS 18.2

Apple Intelligence is only available on some of the most modern iPhone models.

There are six supported models in total:

  • iPhone 16
  • iPhone 16 Plus
  • iPhone 16 Pro
  • iPhone 16 Pro Max
  • iPhone 15 Pro
  • iPhone 15 Pro Max

Currently, the iOS 18.2 beta is only available for these six devices.

At a later date, Apple is expected to debut a future beta that expands the release to older iPhones. Though even then, the key Apple Intelligence upgrades won’t be included.

If you do have a compatible iPhone, you can install the iOS 18.2 beta with a developer account by visiting Settings, then General, and Software Update.

The same principle is true for iPadOS 18.2 and macOS Sequoia 15.2. Their beta releases are currently limited to AI-compatible iPads and Macs, meaning devices with an M1 chip or newer, and the new A17 iPad mini.
