iOS 18.2 beta adds ‘Upgrade to ChatGPT Plus’ option in the Settings app

Apple has just released beta 2 for iOS 18.2, and one of the changes has to do with ChatGPT. The update brings powerful ChatGPT integration to Siri and AI writing tools. And new in today’s beta is the option inside Settings to upgrade to a ChatGPT Plus account.

ChatGPT Plus upgrade now baked into iOS 18.2

ChatGPT is a new Apple Intelligence feature in iOS 18.2. It’s integrated systemwide on iPhone, iPad, and Mac to enable OpenAI’s assistant to sub in for Siri, and complement the existing writing tools Apple offers.

When Apple first announced the OpenAI partnership for ChatGPT, reports indicated there was no money changing hands in the deal. However, today’s addition shows one of the clear benefits that both OpenAI and Apple will receive.

By visiting Settings ⇾ Apple Intelligence & Siri ⇾ ChatGPT in the new iOS 18.2 beta, you’ll see an option to ‘Upgrade to ChatGPT Plus.’

Although ChatGPT integration in iOS 18.2 doesn’t require using an OpenAI account, you can gain access to additional feature by having an account.

And while you can always sign in to a free account to connect your ChatGPT activity to OpenAI’s existing data, you can also sign in to a paid account.

Apple and OpenAI have apparently set some sort of agreement on revenue sharing for users who upgrade to a paid account within iOS 18.2.

Features of ChatGPT Plus for iPhone users

The upgrade screen in Settings promotes some of the features you get, including:

  • 5x more messages on GPT-4o and access to even more advanced models
  • Higher limits for photos and file uploads, image generation, and web browsing
  • More natural, real-time conversations with ChatGPT’s advanced voice mode

Current pricing for ChatGPT Plus is $19.99 per month.

A full list of ChatGPT Plus features is available on OpenAI’s website.

Users on the free plan and who are logged out have some limitations on their ChatGPT use. The Settings app will show you whether you’re under your limit or not.
