OpenAI talks often about how it wants to make ChatGPT and its various AI tools available free to as many users as possible. But the company is also pushing further into paid ventures, and the latest one has a hefty $200/month price tag.
ChatGPT Pro offers ‘unlimited’ access to advanced models
OpenAI is about to kick off a series of announcements over the coming 12 days, some of which will be big news while others are ‘stocking stuffers,’ per CEO Sam Altman.
Ahead of the first announcement, users have discovered references on OpenAI’s website to a brand new, ultra-premium ChatGPT Pro subscription (via TechCrunch).
The kicker? It costs $200/month.
As you can see in the feature list above, ChatGPT Pro is expected to include unlimited access to models like o1 and GPT-4o, plus unlimited advanced voice mode, and a new o1 mode.
It’s also significantly more expensive than the existing ChatGPT Plus plan, which runs for $20/month.
Corroborating this report, another user has separately discovered a reference to ‘o1 pro mode’ when using ChatGPT. It’s unclear now whether o1 pro mode will be exclusive to ChatGPT Pro users, but it seems likely.

Just the next level in the grift. If anyone else has seen the reporting we are hitting the wall on what gen AI can do with our current approaches. Good reliable training data is becoming scarce, Altman is downplaying advancements in AGI and recently said
“AGI can get built, the world mostly goes on in mostly the same way, things grow faster, but then there is a long continuation from what we call AGI to what we call super intelligence”
All while they wave a future in front of your face that is years and years away. Self driving cars all over again.
Per the leaked image, o1 pro mode ‘uses more compute for the best answers to the hardest questions.’
Update: OpenAI has confirmed the details of ChatGPT Pro and its monthly price.
9to5Mac’s Take
$200/month is a huge ask for users, so I can’t imagine there will be a huge market for it. That said, if you rely on ChatGPT to make money for you, it could very well be worth the extra cash for unlimited access and for the new ‘o1 pro’ mode.
What do you think of the $200/month price tag? Will this new plan have a big market? Let us know in the comments.
