Next Apple TV+ movie is a Valentine’s Day horror thriller, here’s the trailer

Apple TV+ has revealed its next movie release, and it’s a little bizarre and still very mysterious. Starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Miles Teller, The Gorge looks like part thriller, part horror, with some romance thrown in and a Valentine’s Day release. Here’s the trailer.

The Gorge stars Anya Taylor-Joy and Miles Teller in unique thriller

In line with Apple’s ever-changing movie strategy, The Gorge is coming straight to Apple TV+ on February 14, 2025—there’s no planned theatrical release.

The film hails from director Scott Derrickson, whose credits include:

  • The Exorcism of Emily Rose
  • Sinister
  • Doctor Strange
  • The Black Phone

A lot of horror, plus a big-budget Marvel film. The Gorge looks similarly flush in cash, but with mysterious horror-like elements that are hinted at in the film’s Apple TV+ summary:

Two highly-trained operatives (Teller and Taylor-Joy) are appointed to posts in guard towers on opposite sides of a vast and highly classified gorge, protecting the world from an undisclosed, mysterious evil that lurks within. They bond from a distance while trying to stay vigilant in defending against an unseen enemy. When the cataclysmic threat to humanity is revealed to them, they must work together in a test of both their physical and mental strength to keep the secret in the gorge before it’s too late.

The trailer both shows a lot and also leaves a lot in mystery.

Based on the description above, my guess is that most of the trailer’s scenes take place in the first half hour of the film. I suspect the majority of the film’s core story is being purposely kept in the dark.

The Gorge will be Anya Taylor-Joy’s first project with Apple TV+, but not her last. As was just announced last week, the actress will also lead a new TV show in the works called Lucky.

9to5Mac’s Take

The Gorge seems like the kind of odd genre mashup that might turn out surprisingly great, or it could be a mess that’s an easy pass. Hopefully it’s a success. In any case, I’m a fan of Apple’s unique approach to Valentine’s Day programming.
