Denzel Washington’s new Apple TV+ film is a crime thriller set in NYC

Apple TV+ has shared the teaser trailer and release date for a big new film starring Denzel Washington: Highest 2 Lowest. Here are the details.

Highest 2 Lowest is a Spike Lee reinterpretation of Kurosawa

Later this year, Apple TV+ will debut an exciting new film project.

Highest 2 Lowest is an A24-Apple collaboration that arrives in theaters August 22 and on Apple TV+ two weeks later, on Friday, September 5.

The film hails from filmmaker Spike Lee, and its cast includes Denzel Washington, A$AP Rocky, Jeffrey Wright, and more. It’s inspired by Akira Kurosawa’s film, “High and Low.”

Here’s Apple’s summary and the first teaser trailer:

When a titan music mogul (Denzel Washington), widely known as having the “best ears in the business,” is targeted with a ransom plot, he is jammed up in a life-or-death moral dilemma. Brothers Denzel Washington and Spike Lee reunite for the fifth time in their long working relationship for a reinterpretation of the great filmmaker Akira Kurosawa’s crime thriller “High and Low,” now played out on the mean streets of modern day New York City.

New film bolsters Apple’s already-strong movie lineup

After struggling with its film slate for much of 2024, Apple seems to have turned things around this year.

The Gorge was a big hit for Apple TV+, and the upcoming Fountain of Youth looks similarly poised for success. This summer, Apple hopes its first summer blockbuster, F1, will provide a much-needed theatrical win for the company.

Highest 2 Lowest, if its creative team ends up delivering, looks like yet another win for the streamer.

Apple TV+ is available for $9.99 per month and features hit TV shows and movies like Ted LassoSeveranceThe Morning ShowSilo, and Shrinking.
