Apple TV has long-delayed thriller series returning very soon

Tehran is one of Apple TV’s longest running thriller series, but you may have never heard of it because for years, the new season’s release has been delayed. Today though, Apple announced that Tehran season 3 is finally premiering next month, and there’s even a season 4 on the way.

Tehran season 3 is coming next month, Hugh Laurie joins cast

Earlier this fall, Apple TV indefinitely delayed a highly anticipated thriller series starring Jessica Chastain. The Savant was set to premiere on September 26, but just days in advance it was pulled from Apple’s schedule.

As my colleague Benjamin Mayo noted at the time, this wasn’t a first for the streamer. He explained:

The third season of popular international thriller Tehran wrapped production back in 2023, but the Apple TV+ release date has been on hold ever since the outbreak of the Israel-Hamas war. Season three actually aired in full on the Israel Kan 11 network in December 2024, but Apple has remained mum on when we can expect a worldwide streaming release.

Though we’re still awaiting a premiere date for The Savant, today Apple announced that Tehran is coming back soon—and it has another season in production.

Tehran season 3 will hit Apple TV on Friday, January 9 with one episode, followed by weekly releases through February 27.

The series is an espionage thriller starring Niv Sultan, and new to the cast this season is Hugh Laurie.

Here’s the official premise of Tehran, followed by the spoiler-filled season 3 trailer:

“Tehran” tells the thrilling story of a Mossad agent who goes deep undercover on a dangerous mission in Tehran that places her and everyone around her in dire jeopardy.

Apple’s press release says that season 4 of Tehran is already in production, so assuming there are no more delays, we’ll likely get new seasons in both 2026 and 2027.

Tehran’s first two seasons are available here on Apple TV.
