Apple TV hit series named among 10 best shows of the year

Apple TV has easily had its best year ever, and as the latest evidence: a prestigious institution’s list of the year’s top 10 TV shows features more Apple releases than ever before.

AFI names three Apple TV shows among the year’s 10 best

Every year, The American Film Institute publishes its picks for the 10 best TV shows and films of the year. Apple TV has made the list before, but typically with only a single show—and on one rare occasion, it scored two.

But this year, Apple TV has earned its best-ever three out of 10 slots on AFI’s recently published list.

Here’s the full ‘Television Programs of the Year’ top 10, in alphabetical order:

  • Adolescence
  • Andor
  • Death by Lightning
  • The Diplomat
  • The Lowdown
  • The Pitt
  • Pluribus
  • Severance
  • The Studio
  • Task

Pluribus, Severance, and The Studio are all among Apple TV’s biggest successes this year.

Pluribus and Severance have been very popular on the streamer, in addition to racking up awards nominations. Meanwhile, The Studio has won major awards already and seems poised to score more soon.

For comparison, in 2024 Apple’s only show to make AFI’s list was Shrinking. In 2023, The Morning Show was recognized, while 2022 named both Pachinko and Severance, and in 2021 Ted Lasso made the list.

With three shows this year, AFI’s list is further proof of Apple TV truly hitting its stride this year—both with mainstream popularity and critical acclaim.

Apple TV is available for $12.99 per month and features hit TV shows and movies like Ted LassoSeverancePluribus, and more. You can also get it through the Apple One bundle.
