‘Beat the Reaper’: Apple TV picks up new dramedy, starring Will Poulter

Apple confirmed today that it will adapt Josh Bazell’s 2009 debut novel “Beat the Reaper” for Apple TV. Here are the details.

Will Poulter to star and executive produce the show

According to Apple, the new show will be a joint production between Apple Studios and New Regency, and it will be showrun by Sam Catlin (Sugar, Breaking Bad), who will also serve as executive producer.

Here’s the company’s synopsis for Beat the Reaper:

(…) Dr. Peter Brown, an intern at Boston’s worst hospital who has a talent for medicine, works a shift from hell and has a past he’d prefer to keep hidden. But when a patient recognizes him from his dangerous past, Brown has eight hours to elude the government, mob hitmen, quack surgeons and a trail of dead gangers to beat the reaper somehow.

Poulter (The Bear, Black Mirror) will play Dr. Peter Brown, and so far is the only confirmed cast member.

Apple didn’t detail when production will start, nor when the series is expected to debut.

Apple TV is available for $12.99 per month and features hit TV shows and movies like F1 The MoviePluribusSeverance, The StudioThe Morning ShowShrinking and Silo.
