Halide cofounder Sebastiaan de With joins Apple’s design team

Halide and Lux co-founder and designer Sebastiaan de With announced today that he is joining Apple’s human interface design team.

This marks a return to Apple for de With, who previously worked as a freelancer for the company on projects including Find My, MobileMe, and iCloud.

de With’s move to Apple comes amid broader shakeups of Apple’s design organization. Alan Dye, Apple’s vice president of Human Interface Design since 2015, departed the company in December for Meta. Stephen Lemay, a 26-year Apple design veteran, took over the role from Dye.

Additionally, Tim Cook has reportedly tapped John Ternus to manage Apple’s design teams behind the scenes. Ternus is Apple’s SVP of Hardware Engineering and Tim Cook’s likely successor as Apple CEO.

In addition to cofounding and leading design for Halide and Lux, and freelancing for Apple, de With has done design work for other tech companies including Sony, Mozilla, Oracle, and HP.

Anyone who has used Halide Lux’s other apps knows how good of a designer Sebastiaan is. I’m very optimistic about this move and what it means for the current focus of Apple’s design team.
