Apple has discontinued the iPhone Upgrade Program in the UK, according to changes made to its website. The company says it is starting a “new chapter for upgrades” and that “the iPhone Upgrade Program is coming to an end.”
Apple also appears to be winding down its partnership with Barclays, which was the bank behind the iPhone Upgrade Program in the UK.
Here’s what Apple says on its UK website:
A new chapter for upgrades.
The iPhone Upgrade Programme is coming to an end, but we think you’ll love what’s next.
You don’t need to do anything right now, just keep making your remaining payments. When it’s time for your next iPhone, the Flexible Finance Account will offer you a new, more flexible way to upgrade.
In place of the iPhone Upgrade Program, Apple has launched a new “Flexible Finance Account” in the UK in partnership with Creation, a Belfast-based consumer finance company.
“The Flexible Finance Account provided by Creation is a line of credit that lets you spread the cost of your next Apple device, and it’s available exclusively at the Apple Store,” Apple explains. “The good news is, it gives you even more options when it’s time for the latest iPhone. Whether applying in-store or online, choose a plan that works for you and get ready to upgrade.”
The iPhone Upgrade Program was backed by Barclays, so this represents a change in partnership for Apple.
The Flexible Finance Account offers multiple financing options, including a 20-month plan that lets you upgrade after 11 monthly payments every year. There’s also a 30-month plan that lets you upgrade after 23 monthly payments. Unlike the iPhone Upgrade Program, it does not bundle AppleCare.
