The AI-powered feature is rolling out today as beta, letting users in select countries directly steer their feeds (albeit temporarily). Here’s how it works.
Life imitates meme
A few months ago, a trend on Threads had users publishing posts along the lines of “Dear algorithm, connect me to users who also miss Gil Amelio,” believing that this would influence their reach and the posts suggested in their feeds.
Today, Threads is actually turning this trend into a feature, with the launch of Dear Algo, “an AI-powered feature that lets you tell Threads what topics you temporarily want to see more or less of.”

The feature is rolling out today as a beta to users in the US, UK, Australia, and New Zealand and adjusts the feed for 3 days, so users “can stay connected to the most current conversations.” The company hopes to expand availability to more countries soon.
To activate the feature, users just need to publish a post starting with “Dear Algo…,” followed by what they’d like to see more (or less!) of, and Threads’ Dear Algo will adjust the feed for three days. Users can also view or delete current and past Dear Algo requests.
Why just three days? Meta is positioning Dear Algo as a way to tune the feed around short-lived moments, like live events, breaking news, or avoiding spoilers. Currently, it doesn’t look like the company is considering letting users change how long these adjustments last or make them permanent, but that’s what betas are for.
One last thing: Meta says that Dear Algo also works for reposts, so if you see someone else’s Dear Algo post you like, you can just repost it to apply those same preferences to your own feed.
