David Pogue shares first look at upcoming ‘Apple: The First 50 Years’ book

Veteran journalist David Pogue has posted a short video offering a quick preview of his upcoming book celebrating Apple’s first 50 years. Here are the details.

’Apple: The First 50 Years’ launches March 10

With just a couple of weeks to go until the release of Apple: The First 50 Years, Pogue shared a short video previewing what readers can expect from the 600-page book, which revisits Apple’s history with a mix of new and familiar stories.

Despite its release being currently planned for March 10, the book is already the top seller on Amazon’s History of Technology category, and is very likely to appear high up in Amazon’s overall Best Seller list once it comes out.

Pogue says he worked on Apple: The First 50 Years for two years and conducted 150 interviews, “including current Apple brass”.

Deeply researched and lavishly illustrated in color, Apple: The First 50 Years includes new interviews with 150 key people who made the journey, including Steve Wozniak, John Sculley, Jony Ive, and many current designers, engineers, and executives. The book busts long-held myths; goes backstage for both the titanic successes (450 million iPods, 700 million iPads, 2.2 billion iPhones) and the instructive failures (Lisa, Apple III, MobileMe); and assesses the forces that challenge Apple’s dominance as it enters its second half century.

Following the book’s release on March 10, Pogue will embark on a press tour currently scheduled for 11 dates in 10 cities, with more stops to be announced.

Apple: The First 50 Years celebrates, of course, 50 years since Apple’s founding on April 1, 1976. The anniversary is also being observed by the Computer History Museum, in addition to Apple’s own celebration, which remains light on details beyond Tim Cook’s promise that “you better believe” there will be… something.
