Shrinking season 4 just got a big release timing update

Shrinking concluded its third season just last month, but thanks to a new update from star Harrison Ford, it sounds like the wait for season 4 could be surprisingly short.

Harrison Ford says Shrinking season 4 starts filming next week, making early 2027 premiere likely

For all the benefits of on-demand TV via streaming services, there’s one big downside compared to the peak broadcast era: the longer wait for new seasons.

When TV revolved around a standard broadcast schedule, your favorite shows came back every year at the same time of year. They also usually had far more episodes—20+ episodes per season versus the 6-10 that are common in streaming.

But for one beloved Apple TV hit, it sounds like the wait for a new season won’t be long.

Shrinking star Harrison Ford, speaking to Variety, shared that filming on season 4 starts next week.

He also revealed that 12 episodes are coming in the new season.

For a show like Shrinking that doesn’t require lengthy post-production for special effects, this update makes it highly likely that Shrinking season 4 will premiere in early 2027.

One other notable Apple TV series recently had a new season ready after just one year: Your Friends & Neighbors. Perhaps Apple executives are more intentionally pushing to reduce the gaps between seasons of its top shows.

Of course, that won’t be true for every series. Severance, by contrast, premiered season 2 in early 2025, a full year before Shrinking season 3. And it’s not expected to return until mid-to-late 2027.

How do you feel about the typical wait times between new seasons of streaming shows? Let us know in the comments.

Apple TV is available for $12.99 per month, or you can get it discounted through the Apple One bundle.
