Apple TV’s new Matthew McConaughey comedy series coming this fall

Apple TV has its best summer lineup ever kicking off soon, but now we know of a notable fall premiere too: a new Matthew McConaughey comedy series called Brothers.

‘Brothers’ series from Apple TV stars Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson

Last fall, Apple TV premiered the Oscar-nominated drama The Lost Bus, starring Matthew McConaughey.

And later this year, McConaughey will return to Apple TV with a very different type of project: a comedy series where he stars alongside Woody Harrelson.

Apple first announced the project back in 2023. Per the press release:

The untitled comedy is a heartfelt odd couple love story revolving around the strange and beautiful bond between Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. Matthew and Woody’s friendship is tested when their combined families attempt to live together on Matthew’s ranch in Texas.

Reporting last year indicated production got halted by a showrunner change after 8 of 10 episodes had already been shot.

But now, we’ve gotten our first significant update on the series, which will be called Brothers.

Brothers will reportedly premiere this fall on Apple TV, per recent comments from Harrelson.

Here’s what he told Deadline:

I did do another show with Matthew [McConaughey] that’s coming out this fall. We play ourselves, and it’s fiction, like Curb, in a way. We play ourselves, but everything’s fictionalized. […]

I end up coming to Texas to hang with him, and I bring my bus. And once the bus is inside the gates of his ranch, it’s not going to go anywhere. That was the concept, and that’s what we’ve done for the first eight episodes.

It sounds like Apple may have opted to reduce the first season to only eight episodes rather than the initially planned 10.

In any case, based on his comments about a fall release, we should get an official announcement from Apple with the specific release date before long.
