WhatsApp has three upgrades for group chats launching today, including improvements to polls, a way to create new chats from existing groups, and more.
WhatsApp adds new poll features, ‘all’ mentions, and more
Today WhatsApp announced a trio of improvements rolling out for group chats.
Polls are a big focus of today’s updates, with several upgrades launching for polls alone:
- Voter names can now be hidden so everyone feels comfortable sharing their input
- You can now set an end time to lock voting at a given deadline
- Polls can now be edited for up to 15 minutes after posting
Support for @all mentions is another group chat feature launching today. It’s a quick, easy way to get everyone’s attention in the chat. Per WhatsApp:
Alert everyone in your group chat about important, time-sensitive messages. No more tagging people one by one or hoping your message gets noticed in a busy group chat. Use @all to notify everyone about urgent messages, like school or office closures, event deadlines, or last-minute changes to your plans. For larger groups with more than 32 people, @all is available for admins only.
And lastly, you can now easily create new group chats from an existing group.
If you ever need to spin off a discussion topic or shared project into a separate chat for whatever reason, now it only takes a couple of taps. You’ll find the ‘Create a similar group’ button in the group details screen.
