John Ternus’s first day as Apple CEO: Here’s the latest

Today is John Ternus’s first day as Apple CEO. A new Bloomberg report has more details on other executive changes, plus tidbits on changes Ternus might make.

Bloomberg reports that Luca Maestri is stepping down as Apple’s “Corporate Services” leader. Maestri served as Apple CFO until January 2025, when he stepped down to take on a smaller role. As head of Corporate Services, Maestri oversaw information systems and technology, information security, and real estate and development.

According to today’s report, Maestri left that job “in recent weeks.” He is, however, still on Apple’s payroll. His only remaining responsibility is “hosting a popular class at Apple University, an in-house program for teaching Apple’s ways to rising executives and employees.”

Bloomberg says that Maestri’s Corporate Services tasks have been shifted to CFO Kevan Parekh.

Adrian Perica

Mark Gurman points out that Apple’s new Leadership page excludes Adrian Perica, its head of mergers and acquisitions.

Apple’s new leadership page also excludes Adrian Perica, the company’s head of mergers and acquisitions. It remains unclear where he will shift within Apple. Bloomberg reported on Sunday that he would likely be dropped by Ternus as a direct report and could split his responsibilities across Apple’s services and finance teams.

It’s possible this signals a change to Apple’s strategy for mergers and acquisitions. Some analysts expect Ternus to be more aggressive in making bigger acquisitions.

A change to how Apple manages outgoing executives

Gurman also says that “people in and around Apple” expect Ternus to change how the company handles outgoing executives. While Cook made a habit of retaining executives in smaller roles, like Maestri, Gurman says “Ternus may be less likely to continue using this approach.”

More tidbits

Ternus officially joined X today, and his first tweet was an all-lowercase “hello” with no punctuation. The post was quoted by marketing exec Greg Joswiak, who wrote: “Hello, indeed. More to say September 9.”
Gurman says Apple is hosting an event at Apple Park today “to introduce John Ternus as its new CEO to employees and to again celebrate Tim Cook’s tenure.”
Laura Legros, a former Apple VP who Ternus recruited out of retirement last month, will reportedly serve in a “Chief of Staff” style role. Cook did not have a person like this around him, according to Gurman.
