Apple’s long-awaited home hub device, often called ‘HomePad,’ is now expected to launch in October. Here’s what’s coming per the latest Bloomberg report.
Apple’s smart home hub is coming soon, per Bloomberg
Mark Gurman at Bloomberg wrote yesterday that Apple’s rumored AI-driven home hub with a screen ”is finally set to be introduced as early as next month.”
The device is poised to expand Apple’s home product offerings beyond Apple TV and HomePod. And now that Siri AI has arrived, the ‘HomePad’ is expected to follow very soon.
Here’s what Gurman says to expect from the brand new product:
- Software: “a new operating system built around Siri AI” that “looks like a mashup of iOS, tvOS and watchOS”
- UI: “The display will have its own home screen, widgets and clock faces similar to those on an Apple Watch or in the iPhone Duo’s upgraded StandBy mode”
- Design: “The roughly square screen will come in versions that either sit on a stand — resembling a HomePod mini chopped in half — or attach to a wall. It’s most similar to an Amazon.com Inc. Echo Show, but with a considerably smaller screen.”
- Features: “It will bring together all of your connected-device controls, video calls, intercom capabilities and media, while giving you access to Apple services and apps”
- iPhone-friendly: “syncs with an iPhone for setup and various other tasks”
Siri is said to be “the killer feature.” Gurman explains:
Apple imagines people using Siri on the home hub to look up information across their devices and accounts. They could ask it to play a podcast or song someone sent them a while ago, find a particular image to display, or carry out more precise tasks in apps like Notes, Reminders and Calendar. The Siri AI app will also let them conduct more complex searches within an Apple interface.
We’re expecting the HomePad to launch alongside new Apple TV 4K and HomePod mini devices in October, all with Siri AI as a major focus.
