Apple launched arguably its first AI wearables last week with Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4, which are gaining new ‘Audio Intelligence’ features alongside Siri AI. But today a Bloomberg report says a different AI product—the rumored wearable pendant—has been put on hold.
Apple’s AI wearable plans no longer include a pendant, at least for now
The AI era has sparked a lot of software innovations, but so far that hasn’t really translated into brand new categories of products.
There have been attempts, to be sure, such as the failed Humane Ai Pin. And Meta has had some success with its AI smart glasses, but that market is still fairly niche.
Rumors indicate Apple has several AI-centric wearables in the works. And last week it arguably shipped the first ones: Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4.
But according to a report by Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, the company has also been working on a wearable pendant equipped with a camera. For now though, it sounds like progress on that product has stalled.
Apple has also been working on an AI pendant with a camera, though that project has been postponed. The device was conceived as something users could wear as a necklace, attach to clothing or place elsewhere on the body, gathering visual data for processing by the new Siri AI assistant.
Gurman reported earlier this year that the pendant would “serve as an always-on camera for the [iPhone] that also includes a microphone for Siri input.”
Now it seems Apple has decided to put the project on hold. Instead, it is focused on infusing the Apple Watch with AI, alongside new AirPods with cameras and smart glasses coming in 2027.
It’s unknown how AI will factor in, but Gurman also says Apple is exploring a new health-focused wearable without a screen that could better compete with WHOOP.
