According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, iPhone Duo buyers who purchase their device at an Apple Store in the US will be treated to a nice little surprise when they turn it on for the first time. Here are the details.
Cool surprise in store for in-store buyers
When Apple launches the iPhone Duo on October 23, some customers who purchase the device at an Apple Store in the US will be able to have its initial setup screen personalized with their name.
According to Gurman, “Apple retail stores will have a system to customize the boot of the device,” allowing the iPhone Duo to display a greeting containing their name when it turns on for the first time. Gurman says the feature will be exclusive to the iPhone Duo, and support both English and Spanish.
It is not clear how Apple will implement the feature, or whether it will rely on Presto, the system Apple Stores already use to wirelessly update iPhones without removing them from their boxes.
First reported by Gurman in 2023, Presto allows Apple retail employees to turn on an iPhone, install software updates, and turn it off again, all while the device remains sealed in its packaging.
Back to the iPhone Duo, it will be available to pre-order starting Friday, October 16, with deliveries and in-store availability beginning October 23.
Apple recently announced that customers will be able to get ready for iPhone Duo pre-orders beginning October 12, and you can read more about that here.
