Apple poaches longtime Meta executive to lead global litigation

Bloomberg reports that Apple has hired Scott Tucker, who spent nearly six years as Meta’s vice president and deputy general counsel for global litigation. Here are the details.

Earlier this year, Meta’s former chief legal officer Jennifer Newstead joined Apple as its new general counsel, replacing longtime executive Kate Adams.

Newstead’s responsibilities eventually expanded to include government affairs following the retirement of Lisa Jackson, who had previously overseen the division.

The changes brought Apple’s legal and government affairs teams under a single executive, with former CEO Tim Cook, now Apple’s executive chairman, also remaining directly involved in managing the company’s government relations.

As part of the reorganization, Apple also hired former American Airlines executive Nate Gatten as its new vice president of government affairs.

Now, Bloomberg reports that Newstead is bringing in a former colleague from Meta, Scott Tucker, who joined Mark Zuckerberg’s company in 2021 and previously held a senior legal position at Morgan Stanley.

The company has hired Scott Tucker, a longtime deputy general counsel and litigation chief at Meta, according to people with knowledge of the matter.

Tucker is becoming Apple’s vice president of global litigation and financial services, a newly created position overseeing commercial and patent litigation worldwide, said the people, who asked not to be named because the move isn’t public. He’ll also manage legal matters involving the company’s financial offerings.

The report adds that as a result of Tucker joining the company, Heather Grenier, Apple’s vice president of commercial and competition litigation, will now report to him rather than directly to Newstead. Bloomberg notes, however, that Grenier will retain her position on Newstead’s legal leadership team.

Finally, Bloomberg says Apple is also expanding the responsibilities of longtime legal executive Kyle Andeer, who will now oversee matters involving “international legal matters and functions involving online child safety, cybersecurity and law enforcement.”
