Jason Sudeikis gives update on Ted Lasso seasons 5 and 6

Ted Lasso season 4 wrapped up earlier this month, and there’s still no official word on the show’s future. But on a recent podcast appearance, Jason Sudeikis shared a new update on Ted Lasso season 5 and beyond.

Here’s the current status of Ted Lasso season 5 and beyond

On a new episode of the podcast Talk Easy with Sam Frogoso, Jason Sudeikis discusses his experience returning to Ted Lasso for season 4, and addresses the current status of season 5 and plan for more seasons.

After season 3 concluded, Apple and it seemed the entire cast wanted more Ted Lasso. But repeatedly in interviews, everyone involved deferred to Sudeikis when asked about a potential season 4. The creative leader behind Lasso wasn’t sure if he wanted the show to go on.

This time around, however, things sound different.

Here’s what Sudeikis said during his podcast appearance about more Ted Lasso seasons:

Sam Frogoso: So what does this all mean for you moving forward? You want to keep going back to the well? Do you have season five and six mapped out? Is that the plan?

Jason Sudeikis: I mean, that was the endeavor of going back into it, just sort of like, oh, I think there’s more in there…We’ll see. It takes a village.

Frogoso: Do you want to do it?

Sudeikis: I would like to, yeah. I think it would be fun.

Frogoso: You’re being mighty coy about whether there’s going to be more seasons of the show.

Sudeikis: Oh, unintentionally.

Frogoso: Do you just not know?

Sudeikis: Yeah, I just don’t know. We haven’t started a writers room or anything like that.

Frogoso: But Apple would do it if, presumably, you want to keep going.

Sudeikis: I would assume so.

Reading between the lines, it sounds like there are some behind-the-scenes negotiations still ongoing regarding additional seasons.

Before season 4 began, reporting indicated Sudeikis had a new three-season arc in mind for the show. That’s what Frogoso refers to in his initial question. And while Sudeikis sounds fully onboard and ready to move forward with his plan for more seasons, clearly something is holding up the show.

I've spent the past weekend (October 16-17, 2026) rewatching snippets of earlier Ted Lasso episodes on YouTube, and reading the comments posted by other viewers on the pithy, informative, insightful analysis by Christopher Orr in The New York Times. It is clear that most fans love Ted Lasso, but it is also clear that most felt there was a significant drop in quality with Season 4.

As for me, as much as I love Seasons 1-3, if 5&6 will be like 4, I'd contend it's time to give it up. Nothing against the Lady Greyhounds, it's just the quality of writing and stories left much to be desired. Let sleeping Diamond Dogs lie.

During its season 4 run, Ted Lasso was consistently the top-viewed show on Apple TV. While it didn’t hit nearly the heights that season 3 enjoyed, it was still very much a hit for the streamer.

If you’re looking for another Apple TV comedy to watch, Small Prophets has been hailed as “the finest show to hit Apple this year.”
