Leaker reveals larger iPhone Duo details, possible Telephoto camera

Today on Mark Gurman’s Power On podcast, the prolific leaker offered fresh insights into several features in the works for future iPhone Duo models, including larger screen sizes and possibly a Telephoto camera.

Mark Gurman details Apple’s plans for larger iPhone Duo, says Telephoto is ‘on their list’ for future models

The iPhone Duo isn’t yet available in stores, but Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman already has plenty to share about Apple’s plans for future models.

Today on his Power On podcast, Gurman revealed that Apple is testing iPhone Duo 2 models with Face ID under the outer display, and is exploring ways to add an Action button. You can read more about those details here.

Later in the episode, Gurman looks further out to a 2028 third-gen model that he’s previously reported on.

The iPhone Duo 3 is expected to be slightly larger, and on the podcast Gurman offered specifics on what to expect. He said:

What I heard, just to be specific about the larger screen version of the Duo, is I heard…it’s marginal. It would be that the bigger screen, or the inside screen, increasing by, it’s like, this is rough, like very roughly half an inch. And so, that wouldn’t necessarily make the outer screen much bigger…we’re not talking about an 8.5-inch, 9-inch inner screen. We’re talking about like high sevens, very low eights.

For reference, iPhone Duo currently has a 7.6-inch folding display.

The appeal of Duo to me is that it is small when folded. I am in the minority but I loved my 12 Mini for many years.

Gurman compares the forthcoming change to how Apple gradually sized up its Pro line in recent years. For example, it went from 6.7 inches on iPhone 15 Pro Max to 6.9 inches on iPhone 16 Pro Max.

As part of the conversation, Gurman is also asked if Apple is going to add a Telephoto camera to a future iPhone Duo. He says, “That’s on their list. I don’t know when that’s coming, but that’s gonna be hard to do.”

He adds that it isn’t a matter of cost, but physics: “I think that’s purely a physics issue in terms of the depth needed. It’s going to be interesting to see how they end up solving that.”
