tvOS 26.4 adds powerful new ‘Genius’ feature for Apple TV 4K

tvOS 26.4 is launching soon for Apple TV 4K users with several new changes, including one recent beta addition that expands the ‘Genius’ branding once popularized in iTunes.

‘Genius Browse’ is a new content discovery tool in tvOS 26.4’s TV app

In the world of streaming, it’s not uncommon to miss out on great content because of the flood of constant new releases. This is true with music and also TV shows and movies.

But in tvOS 26.4, Apple is adding a powerful solution to improve content discovery.

’Genius Browse’ is a new feature of the Apple TV app in tvOS 26.4. It’s available in the beta now, and is expected to ship to all users in the coming weeks.

Expanding the old ‘Genius’ term popularized in iTunes, and still in use within macOS Tahoe’s Music app today, ‘Genius Browse’ makes it easy to find your next TV show or movie to watch.

When navigating the Home tab inside Apple’s TV app, tvOS 26.4 adds a row of Genius Browse categories to choose from.

Examples I saw today included:

  • Daring Fantasy Adventures
  • Clever Capers
  • Thrilling Sports Stories
  • Good for Date Night
  • Based on a Book
  • Action-Packed Sci-Fi
  • and more

When you select one of the categories, you’re given a list of recommended titles to check out.

What’s especially helpful is that as you navigate through each recommendation, you’ll see a new row of related titles appear underneath it. So you’re not limited to just the initial batch of recommendations—rather, each featured title unlocks another layer of title-specific recommendations.

You can also personalize Genius Browse to a specific user profile on your Apple TV, or see only titles in certain genres. These filtering tools make the recommendations even more helpful.

Since Apple’s TV app features content not only from Apple’s own streaming service, but also third-party services like HBO Max, Prime Video, Peacock, Disney+, and more, Genius Browse taps into all of these different services too.

Here’s hoping the TV app supports Netflix titles some day too.

Have you tried the new Genius Browse feature in the tvOS 26.4 beta? How’s it working for you? Let us know in the comments.
