Lock maker Kwikset is updating its smart lock app to work with Apple CarPlay for the first time.
Smart lock control through CarPlay otherwise relies on Siri or scene recommendations from CarPlay’s Dashboard view.
By introducing a CarPlay app, Kwikset is giving more control to drivers who want to visually check the status or lock/unlock a connected smart lock.
Once a smartphone is connected to the vehicle, either wired or wirelessly, the Kwikset app appears alongside other supported apps, allowing users to select their home and tap to lock or unlock their door.
In addition to CarPlay, Kwikset is also bringing smart lock control to the car for Android Auto:
Kwikset’s integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, extends key-free access from the front door to the dashboard. Compatible locks connected through the Kwikset app appear automatically within the vehicle interface, allowing homeowners to view and manage multiple homes and locks from one place. Access through CarPlay and Android Auto is available to homeowners and administrators connected to the Kwikset app.
Kwikset’s iPhone app is available on the App Store. The company has a range of connected locks that work with iPhone, Apple Watch, and now CarPlay.
