Apple has just released a new software update for iPhone users. iOS 26.4.2 is here and ready to install, here’s what’s new.

Apple releases iOS 26.4.2 with new bug fixes and security updates

iOS 27 will be unveiled soon at WWDC, and iOS 26.5 is currently in beta testing, but Apple has yet another software release debuting today.

iOS 26.4.2 is available now for iPhone users alongside iPadOS 26.4.2 for iPad. You can install each update via Settings ⇾ General ⇾ Software Update.

New in today’s latest software release is a fresh batch of bug fixes and security updates.

Here are Apple’s official release notes:

Apple has published details on the specific security updates here on its website. There’s only one fix mentioned: “Notifications marked for deletion could be unexpectedly retained on the device.”

If you’re expecting new iPhone features in iOS 26.4.2, you’ll be disappointed as those aren’t coming until iOS 26.5 next month. That update will bring Apple Maps changes, likely end-to-end encrypted RCS messaging, and more.

It’s only been a couple weeks since the last bug fix update arrived, with iOS 26.4.1 addressing iCloud sync issues. We’ll keep you posted on any specific bugs that are discovered as fixed in today’s update.

If you’re still running iOS and iPadOS 18, there’s also a new 18.7.8 update available today with the same security fix as iOS 26.4.2 adds.

Have you installed iOS 26.4.2? If so, let us know of any changes you notice via the comments.
