Apple has ‘six major new product categories’ coming, says Mark Gurman

Apple launches new iPhone models every year, but products in all-new categories are far more rare. Here are six “major new product categories” that Mark Gurman just told TBPN are in development at Apple.

Full list of Apple’s ‘major new product categories’ in the works, per Gurman

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman appeared on TBPN this week to talk about Apple’s CEO transition, what to expect from John Ternus, and more.

As part of the conversation, Gurman said: “There are six major Apple products in development right now, six major new product categories.”

Here’s the full list he shared:

  1. AI AirPods
  2. Smart glasses
  3. Pendant
  4. Smart display
  5. Tabletop robot
  6. Security camera

I’d argue that AI AirPods don’t quite belong on a list of “major new product categories,” since they’re still ultimately an AirPods product.

Every other product on the list, however, does represent an entirely new category Apple hasn’t entered before.

Apple Glasses are currently rumored to be unveiled either later this year or in early 2027. Either way, they reportedly won’t ship until 2027.

Gurman has reported on the Pendant before as a new AI wearable that’s an alternative to AI AirPods and Glasses. All three products are expected to rely heavily on a paired iPhone for Siri and other AI features.

The smart display (‘HomePad’), tabletop robot, and security camera are all brand new Apple Home products.

Last we heard, the HomePad will launch this fall—possibly at the iPhone 18 event. The tabletop robot is slated for 2027, but Gurman recently hinted it’s in danger of slipping into 2028. And the security camera is expected later this year.
