Major new Apple products get fresh updates: AR glasses and iPad Fold

Last week Mark Gurman outlined six new products coming in brand new categories after John Ternus becomes Apple CEO. This weekend Gurman added more to the list, including updates on two major new products: AR glasses and a foldable iPad.

Here’s the latest on Apple’s AR glasses and foldable iPad, per Mark Gurman

Mark Gurman writes at Bloomberg:

  • Augmented Reality Glasses: The dream is to create lighter-weight glasses with AR, which overlays digital information over real-world views, in a form factor that could ultimately replace the iPhone. The company wants to launch these between 2028 and 2030.
  • Foldable iPad: Apple has been working on a roughly 20-inch foldable iPad. This device has been a Ternus priority but may end up being a wacky experiment that doesn’t see the light of day, according to several people who have worked on it.

We haven’t gotten notable updates on either of these future products in a while, and there are some key details here to consider.

The timeline for Apple AR glasses is clearly very much in flux, but the fact that a 2028 launch is reportedly still on the table is encouraging.

Apple is launching AI smart glasses sooner than that. An unveiling is expected either later this year or in early 2027, with the product shipping to users in 2027 either way.

Perhaps as part of its smart glasses development, Apple has achieved breakthroughs that make it optimistic a 2028 launch for AR glasses is possible.

Meanwhile, the ‘iPad Fold’ hasn’t really been heard of since last summer. That’s when it reportedly got pushed from a late 2026 launch window to as late as 2028.

It sounds like the product’s future is still uncertain, since several sources told Gurman they doubt it will ever ship.

However, the iPad Fold being “a Ternus priority” is especially intriguing. If this fall’s foldable iPhone Ultra is a hit, I could see Ternus fast-tracking development of the foldable iPad immediately.
