Rode just made the AirPods of lav mics for your iPhone

We’re living in the future, folks. Rode just announced its new Wireless Micro hardware, and it’s basically the AirPods of lav mics for your iPhone. The product consists of two wireless lavaliere microphones, a USB-C wireless receiver that connects to your iPhone or iPad, and a compact charging case that recharges over USB-C. I’ve been trying out the Rode Wireless Micro for a few weeks now, and I’m honestly blown away by the state-of-the-art technology here…

Rode Wireless Micro is the most compact way to turn your USB-C smartphone or tablet into a portable recording studio. You can literally fit the whole system in your pocket — the charging case is about the size of the Powerbeats Pro charging case — which makes it ideal for impromptu video creation with high fidelity audio capture. I’m certain you’ll see the Wireless Micro in use for content creation by me over the next year. However, the most fun I’ve had with this thing happened over the weekend when I stuck a mic on each of my kids at the trampoline park and hit record on my iPhone.

Audio recording works whether you’re using the Rode Capture app or the built-in Camera app for recording video. The Rode Capture app gives you more creative control, however, including the ability to record a mixed track or separate tracks when using both microphones. You can also capture video from both the front and back camera with Rode Capture — an ideal setup for recording video interviews with great audio.

What’s in the box and availability

More details from Rode:

Each transmitter features a patent-pending acoustic chamber design, which houses the microphone and is purpose-built to mitigate wind noise and capture exceptionally clear audio while remaining as compact as possible. The omnidirectional pickup pattern captures sound from all around, making placement and positioning super simple. Combining this withGainAssist makes for perfectly balanced, even audio, even if the microphone moves during recording or its placement isn’t ideal. […]

The transmitters’ ultra-compact form factor and ultra-lightweight build – weighing just 12 grams – make them perfect for clipping onto talent while remaining discreet on-camera, and their splash proof design means they can even handle inclement weather. The pocket-sized charging case keeps the system safe and secure on the move and, with an extra two recharges on-board for a total battery life of 21 hours, theWireless Micro is ready whenever and wherever the creator takes it.

Rode Wireless Micro is available in USB-C or Lightning configurations in either black or white. It retails for an incredible $149, a value price that makes this a must-have for enhancing your video capture game for professional or home use. Find it from rode.com or authorized Rode dealers.
