New Apple TV+ series will star Anya Taylor-Joy in her first big show since The Queen’s Gambit

Apple TV+ has announced a new show in the works for future release—it’s called Lucky, and it has some big names behind it including Anya Taylor-Joy.

Lucky hails from Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine studio

Lucky will be a limited TV series based on a New York Times bestselling novel of the same name, which was a Reese’s Book Club pick.

It will star Anya Taylor-Joy, who hasn’t been in a starring TV role since her breakthrough turn in The Queen’s Gambit on Netflix back in 2020. Her work since then has largely been in films like The Super Mario Bros. Movie, Dune: Part Two, and The Menu, plus one guest role in the series Peaky Blinders.

Here’s the new TV+ show’s premise:

In “Lucky,” Taylor-Joy stars as a young woman who left behind the life of crime she was raised in years ago, but must now embrace her darker, criminal side one final time in a desperate attempt to escape her past.

Unsurprisingly, since Lucky was a Reese’s Book Club pick, frequent Apple collaborator Hello Sunshine is producing the show. Previous Apple collaborations include The Morning Show, The Last Thing He Told Me, and Surface.

Anya Taylor-Joy is set to make her Apple TV+ debut in the upcoming movie The Gorge, where she stars alongside Miles Teller.

Apple TV+ has recently been having perhaps its strongest few months ever, and Lucky seems like a perfect fit for the streamer’s existing offerings. No release date has been shared, but hopefully it’s able to squeak into 2025.
