As someone who had the only Mac in the company I worked for 20 years ago, it’s been a fun journey to see Apple grow so much in the enterprise, particularly the Mac. Time Machine still works great. It’s one of those Apple features that quietly does its job, but it also feels like something from another era in terms of technology. Migrating between Device Management Services (DMS) usually involved full device wipes, custom scripts, and hoping everything re-enrolled properly. Some vendors leaned into that pain. They’d offer bargain pricing in year one, then quietly ratchet it up over time. Because what were IT teams going to do? It’s time to retire the idea that “MDM is all you need.” We are past that with Apple in the enterprise. What we need now is a shift in mindset.
