You've been hearing about it for months.  Now go download it...

Also, Safari 3 was updated.  More from Apple below.

The 10.5.7 Update is recommended for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard and includes general operating system fixes that enhance the stability, compatibility and security of your Mac. For detailed information about security updates, please visit this website.

Installing the update

To update to Mac OS X 10.5.7, use Software Update or the standalone installer. You only need to use one of these methods to update your computer.

Software Update

Choose Software Update from the Apple menu to automatically check for the latest Apple software using the Internet, including this update. (Software Update might have linked you to this article to learn more about the update.) If your computer is not up-to-date, other software updates available for your computer may appear which you should install. Note that an update's size may vary from computer to computer when installed using Software Update. Also, some updates must be installed prior to others, so you should run Software Update more than once to make sure you have all available updates.

Standalone installer

Download the update installer and run it manually. This is a useful option when you need to update multiple computers but only want to download the update once. These versions of the standalone installers are available from Apple Support Downloads.

The Mac OS X 10.5.7 Update is recommended for all versions of Mac OS X 10.5 through 10.5.6.

  • The delta update lets you update from Mac OS X 10.5.6 to 10.5.7
  • The combo update lets you update from Mac OS X 10.5, 10.5.1, 10.5.2, 10.5.3, 10.5.4, 10.5.5, or 10.5.6 to 10.5.7

MacBook 2.2GHz: 449 MB.

No issues so far. I upgraded from 10.5.6.

Also received the tamper error message and have not been able to install the so called update.

Seems the big update gets to a certain point then says "file may have been tampered with after being signed by apple", anyone having similar issues???

I got that the first time through, but the second it went through without issue.

Yep got that too, but second time went OK.

Yeah Me four. Maybe if the update started to download in the background before and then durning it you when to software update and hit update through it, the message appears. Just a thought though

Yes but did standalone update 10.5.6 to 10.5.7 (not the combo) and it restarted 3x then back to work. Snappiness ensued.

I've been having that issue all afternoon. I am taking my computer to the Genius Bar tomorrow. Also the update according to Apple is over 400 mb however on my software update it says that it is only 276 mb.

SO FAR HAS CRASHED MACBOOK, MACBOOK PRO AND A MACBOOK AIR!!!!!!

Seems unlikely, since:

1. you fail to describe the nature of the crash
2. you're using an upper-case only terminal.. a VT-52?

Is this better....... Maybe I can fax you the symptoms! I was making a point you Idiot! Yes they all three crashed. They were Beach balling after the install. And the only way to correct this issue was to reload the OS.
BTW:
The units affected were:
Unibody 15" Macbook Pro
Unibody Macbook
New Macbook Air

Well man, you're stupid to have three parallel upgrades going all at once. You'd think "hmm, the first one didn't work, MAYBE I should hold off". Oh no, just do them all at once. What's the worst that can happen?

As for me: MacBook works. iMac works. And old iMac G4 works.

Next you'll claim you got one of them "PC VIRI" on yer "Intel MAC".

Don't hate the intel MAC. I have been a loyal Mac fan and Intel breathed new life into Apple. As for you comments, I think I am pretty smart.....but I have employee's that are sometimes a little too fast on the downloads. The three Macpro's, nine iMacs, two Mac Minis and 17 Unibody Macbook pro are fine. It might have been a conflict with other software?? Maybe I was a little short with my first post, but understand that they were working fine before the update.

I keep hitting the Software Update and nothing. I prefer the Software Update over the stand alone installer. Still waiting

i have installed, no problem until now...

They also have a Safari 4 update as well

Safari seems... I don't know.... Snappier?

Safari 3.2.3 is wicked fast compared to the previous version!

By the way, in case anyone has an issue updating, here's your fix:

Boot from an external bootable drive, and reinstall using the standalone downloadable update from support.apple.com

The issue I ran into was a continuing blue screen that refused to go away after 30 minutes. So fret not if you see this!

Seems people aren't patient enough.
Reparied disk permissions, then installed the combo updater (downloaded direct from Apple, no software update) on my 8x3.2 MacPro. Installed on top 10.5.6. It restarted, stayed gray for a few min and restarted again. (double restarts are common with updates). After the second restart it was on a grey screen. I walked away for about 15 min and came back to it still grey, but with a large 2D blinking folder on the screen. I manually powered off, powered back on, and all seems well. Re-repaired disk permissions and a zillion things popped up though. Everything seems nice and fast now.

let the snappier comments begin....

installed on two drives, different way. one with the downloaded combo updater on top of 10.5.6 on a macbook pro (late 2008) and then ran software update on a Mac Pro on top of 10.5.6 no issues, runs great. I too got an extended grey screen, double restarts which are normal on updates, and everything is fine. Repaired permission repair on both after the installs. installed new Safari update as well and it seems a bit snappier I will agree.

It seems like a lot of folks followed your EXACT procedure here.

Installed on a desktop hackintosh running vanilla OSX, no issues. Flawless update.

I used Preferences -> Software Update. Took a long time but listed 10.5.7. Clicked "Continue" but never got past the spinning beach ball. Couldn't do anything else. Tried to force quit, but nothing. Had to do a hard reboot and it seems okay.

I'm going to wait a while before trying on my iMac again or attempting it on my Macbook or Mac Mini.

Sad...first time I've had a bad experience like that. :(

Installing now, will report back as soon as I restart.

Ok, everything is working fine here. Installed with updater over 10.5.6 on my 2.0 MacBook, everything is running great. Also updated Safari 4.0, I have a shitty internet connection, so can't really tell if it's snappier, but no problems at all here.

Flawless... fast and snappy
