PSA: Customers can start booking Apple Watch try-on appointments on April 10

apple

While some had assumed that it would be possible to book an Apple Watch try-on appointment ahead of the April 10th Apple Store preview kickoff, several Apple employees have told 9to5Mac that the booking process will actually begin on the 10th — the same day appointments will commence. Customers will be able to book 15 minute appointments, which are not necessarily required, via the Apple website on a computer or via the Apple Store iOS app. Apple Store employees have been instructed to promote the Apple Store app during in-store purchases leading up to the 10th, which Apple hopes will result in more booked appointments to try on the Apple Watch. Earlier this week, we profiled how Apple Store employees will begin providing customers fashion advice when the Apple Watch launches on April 24th. Thanks, FruitStandCrazy.

Disappointing but not surprising. I plan on pre-ordering one or two options online at midnight Pacific on April 10 (the stainless steel model with Milanese Loop, obviously, and possibly the Space Gray Sport model), trying them on at an Apple Store when I get the chance, and then canceling whichever one I decide not to go with.

      obviously.

I think this process will reveal itself as incredibly flawed. Angela Ahrendts comes from a retail experience far different than anything close to an Apple launch. I too am considering ordering 2 watches when the online orders open then going into the store later to try them out and cancel the one that isn’t my choice. Imagine how this screws up inventory. Further I am still waiting for the fallout from Apple employees choosing who “looks like” an edition customer and who doesn’t.
