Apple TV rolls out new CBS Sports and USA Now channels

IMG_4425

Apple has pushed two new channels to the Apple TV today, bringing sports and drama content from two new sources. The first new channel is CBS Sports, which allows users to watch free clips from a host of different sports, including the NFL, MLB, NBA, college sports, and more.

The second new channel is USA Now, which features content from the USA network. Unlike CBS Sports, this one will require a cable provider login to access most content. Once logged in, users will be able to watch full episodes or clips from their favorite USA shows.

Both new channels are available now as an automatic over-the-air update and should show up on Apple TV home screens within the next few hours. More images from both channels are available below, along with a list of some top cable providers supporting USA Now.

Yay! Two more channels to hide!

    Anxiously awaiting the AppleTV overhaul.
I’m sure I’m not alone in that I never even bother to look at these new channels. Figuring out what they offer in terms of real content is too much of a chore. I’m sure its just another app loaded with “HD Clips”…and maybe one or two full length pieces.

In the next iteration, I don’t care what channels are on the Apple TV, so long as there is an aggregated Global content search. If I search for a TV Show or Movie title, I should get every result across all channels, sorted by Paid, Free, Clips, etc.

Not sure about these channels, but the NBC Sports Live channel did NOT push to my 2nd Gen ATV. Yes, I restarted it and checked for updates. Much like my iPad and iPad 2, Apple has made this device practically useless. Hoping for something good in June!

    • It showed up on mine and the “new” flag on HBO Now disappeared. Then later that day it disappeared and the “new” flag on HBO Now returned. Few days later it showed up again and stayed.

This morning I checked and only the NBC Sports channel is there, the USA one is nowhere to be found.

With all these channels that require an existing cable provider to activate, I have waning faith that Apple “cracked the code” when it comes to TV.

And the fact that more are still rolling out so close to the alleged overhaul is not giving me much faith either.

    *yawn* Still waiting for Plex

So that you can stream your pirated MKVs? Not gonna happen.

I have none of the sort; that’s not what Plex is for. But I think you knew that.

CBS Sports is also in Poland. Unfortunately in Poland, no USA Now and no HBO NOW…Gosh…Apple why why why…

With the addition of these channels, there’s quite a line up. It seems like true A La Carte Service if the agreements are made is coming more of a possibility.

And again USA only, come on Apple think about your non USA Apple Tv users.

Here Down Under we got the CBS sport app and Fox Sports News app. The later is a general up sell of the paytv product. $20 a month?
