Impact: Eastern markets ablaze on Apple chatter

All happening in the East this morning, with news from China, Korea and Japan showing the Apple effect continues in full.

In Japan, local iPhone carrier, Softbank, saw profit more than double on strength of the demand for the Apple smartphone. The Tokyo-based company booked a 96.7 billion yen ($1 billion) net profit in the year through March 31, up from 43.2 billion yen a year earlier, it said Tuesday.

The company said it added a net 1.24 million subscribers during the year as its “iPhone for everybody” campaign drove demand for Apple Inc.’s popular smart phone.

In related news, most Japanese consumer electronics discount stores have ceased online sales of iPods, Macs and other Apple products at the request of the company.
