Apple’s cheer at the generally positive market reaction to its quarterly report may be somewhat muted by the news that iPhone sales fell at both AT&T and Sprint.
AT&T’s Q1 results revealed sales of 4m iPhones, or 67% of all its smartphone sales. This is down from 84% in the final quarter of 2012 which is of course the holiday quarter where people give and receive gifts…
Sprint’s Q1 results revealed iPhone sales of 1.5m, a 31 percent fall from its 2.2m sales in the previous holiday quarter. Sprint’s absolute numbers paint a misleadingly negative picture, however: the company has lost half a million Nextel customers ahead of its planned shutdown of the olde-world network, so sales of all handsets have fallen. However, the 30 percent share held by iPhone is still a slight drop on the 33 percent share across the whole of 2012.
