Apple discontinues non-Retina 15-inch MacBook Pro, 13-inch lives on

During today’s Apple event, the company announced new versions of the 15″ MacBook Pro with Retina Display, but they failed to mention anything about the DVD drive-equipped MacBook Pro without a Retina Display. Now it seems we know why. Apple has discontinued the non-Retina version of the 15″ MacBook Pro, leaving only two Retina models in its place.

The 13″ version of the non-Retina MacBook Pro is still around, though, complete with a DVD drive and low-resolution display.

I would like to point out that Apple raised the price of a 500GB MacBook Pro by $600 due to the Flash memory “upgrade”. No large HDD available. This puts the notebook out of price range for most of America.

Apple is really going to lose a lot of “Pro” customers. What is the point of spending so much on a Pro laptop where you can not upgrade the memory and uses expensive propitiatory flash drives? Developers are a type of pro user where a Retina screen is not necessary…we need a lot of storage and lot of memory. I refuse to spend $2500 on a laptop, just so I can have 500GB of storage and 16GB of memory. Back to Lenovo for me. I really use to love you Apple…you broke my heart.
