BodyGuardz uses an aluminum bezel to tackle the iPhone 6 screen protector problem

The gently curved glass edges of the iPhone 6/Plus screens feel absolutely luxurious but are a nightmare for screen protector companies. Compounding this issue is the fact that rigid tempered glass is now the preferred material for iPhone screen protection.

Some companies have taken a stab at solving this issue, but at CES we were able to go hands-on with BodyGuardz’s upcoming solution.

“The Crown” combines BodyGuardz’s Pure tempered glass screen protector with a finely crafted anodized aluminum rim. The glass protects the entire flat surface of an iPhone 6/Plus screen, while the thin aluminum bezel covers its curved edges. During our brief demonstration we were impressed with how both of these pieces came together to create a seamless solution.

The aluminum material will come in different colors when it’s released next month including gold, silver, and black. The iPhone 6 version is slated to cost $34.95, with the bigger iPhone 6 Plus version coming in at $5 more.

So it’s effectively removing the curved glass feature of the 6/+
    ?
The infinity effect of the curved glass is kind of an edge less abundance of imagery on your screen. Movies and pictures kind of spill out into your hands from the screen.

I’d rather pay for apple care and replace the screen of something happens than to take away a feature “Just in Case”

      Seriously?

If you look carefully in the video, the aluminum “crown” they developed does have a curve, just like the original display on the 6 & 6 Plus. So, it would have almost the exact same feel as a naked iPhone. Not a bad idea if you like naked phones. I, however, don’t and nor does my profession

So the price for the crown is $34.95? Or is that the price of aluminum add-on?

No matter how they’re made, I refuse to use a screen protector. In all of the 7 years and 6 months that I have had an iPhone, not one of them have ever had a scratch on the screen. Why? Because I’m not a dumbass who would put my iPhone in a pocket with keys or some other object that is capable of scratching glass. It’s common sense. Screen protectors (and most cases) detract from the beauty of the iPhone, and often interfere with its functionality. Every iPhone I’ve had has been pristine from the day I first took it out of the box to the last day I used it. Yes. That really is possible.

I went through about 6 screen protectors on my iPhone 5. By the time I traded it in, the home button was so uniformly scratched up that you could hardly see the square under the glass. Always in its own pocket, always handled with care, but…I work with my hands, and on a daily basis I’m getting concrete dust, aluminum/steel shavings, dirt, broken glass on my fingers, so there is no way that anything other than a sapphire cover could resist being utterly destroyed in daily use. It’s not misuse, it’s just how my phone has to be used.

First of all that’s BS. Your screen definitely has fine scratches from taking it in and out of your pocket. Second of all, no way your phone is just as pristine as the first day you take it out of the box, to the year or two later you decide to sell it. It’s not possible.

A beautiful case like a Spigen neo hybrid, although not as gorgeous as the iphone itself is a Beauty of its own. My bestskinsever HD screen protector is crystal clear and protects my screen. I can say without a shadow of a doubt that my iPhone after 2 years is in pristine condition because of the measures I take to keep it that way. And nothing about my protection interferes with the functionality of my phone.

Nothing wrong with anyone looking to protect their iPhone which many have worked hard to get. To say otherwise is silly.

Ehh… the iPhone 6 doesn’t have beveled edges. Strictly speaking, nor did the iPhone 5 (it had chamfered edges) but that’s beside the point. The 6 has filleted edges. How can a company designing a screen protector not know the difference? That’s like a car company confusing diesel with petrol!

I just bought a Zeos screen protector that’s edge to edge and just received it today and installed it. Absolutely stunning. They do not have any aluminum or anything on top, and it covers perfectly. Also, they have a really cool installation guide unit, that helped me install it in seconds and perfectly. It’s also 3D, as compared to 2.5D of the others out there (I’m not a techie, the guys at Zeos told me that :) ). I saw this review on zdnet and decided to get it and am absolutely thrilled at my purchase.

Price is slightly on the expensive side, but it looks like a premium product. Will let you’ll know how it holds up, after using it for a few days. This one by bodyguardz looks nice too. Let me know if anyone tries it out.
