After dropping the iPhone from its lineup completely in February, it seems Virgin Mobile USA has had something of a change of heart. Not only is it now offering the latest two iPhone models, it’s also slashed $100 off the full retail price.
You can snag a 16GB iPhone 6 from Virgin Mobile’s online store for $549.99, a hefty discount on the usual full retail price of $649.99. Likewise, the 16GB iPhone 6 Plus is just $649 (down from $749). For those wanting an even cheaper way to get an iPhone, the 8GB white iPhone 5c is available to buy from Virgin Mobile for $299.
Interestingly, back when the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus originally launched last fall, Sprint’s prepaid subsidiary stated it had no specific plans to launch the new devices. With them having been on the market for almost a year, Virgin Mobile’s sense of timing is intriguing to say the least. Regardless, with Virgin’s competitive price plans, and the $100 discount, you could potentially save a bundle on these devices.
Perhaps the only downsides are that Virgin Mobile doesn’t currently seem to be offering more than one storage capacity for each phone. Only 16GB models of the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are available, while the iPhone 5c is only available in white with 8GB internal storage. What’s more, if you’re in an area where Sprint coverage isn’t so hot, then you won’t need telling that a good price isn’t worth it when you can’t get reliable cellular reception. If you want other storage options, and an unlocked phone at a discount, there’s always Amazon.

There’s actually a bug that prevents people from purchasing the iPhones online. The customer service on Facebook is directing people to call support in order to place an order.
God, I would throw a fit if I were still in the US, 2.5GB/month is laughable. Also the most buggy and unpredictable experience I ever had using an iPhone was when I got a 4S from Virgin Mobile.
Laughable? I don’t know where you live but here in Germany for 27€ (30$) you get 500 mb of high speed Internet. Typically contracts with 2.5 gab hoghspeed cost around 50/60€. That’s almost $70
In Ukraine, 3Mob charges 296 UAH/$15 a month for true unlimited 3g access.
Most of Ukraine is still on 2g. The popular carriers like KievStar are still offering 2g.
But, 3Mob, if you can live with the sometimes spotty coverage, is awesome.
I got great 3Mob reception in my apartment, and I hogged 3g day and night…I miss that.
Now, I am not a huge data hog any more, but I still remember what it was like – it was real convenient to hog data….2.5GB really take discipline. Even 5GB does – which is what i have now….
p.s. for anyone who finds this interesting, 3mobs data tiers are 4.5GB for $3/mo., 13.5GB for $6/mo., 25GB for $10/mo. and for true unlimited $15/mo.
LOL – of course I went with $15 a month, not because I expected to exceed 25GB/mo, although I have no idea what I did, because i went ape freakin nuts with data usage…
But from my eyes, I figured I should just go with $15/mo. because they didn’t have an option to pay more, lol…I felt like I was stealing at that price….
Ukraine is a great country, but kind of dirt poor.
One thing I will note, is these less expensive MVNO’s, often don’t let you use the phone as a mobile hotspot, which is a bummer, or sometimes they just charge a fee to add mobile hotspot for $5 for 250mb and 1 day….which is like throwing $5 in the trash if you ask me.
But, if you don’t need mobile hotspot, StraightTalk is $45 for unlimited voice/text and 5GB or 3GB of data…(5GB if you bring your own phone, which is what you’ll need to do to use iPhone)…. – in other words, you can buy the phone from Apple unlocked and then use it with them.
Which is what I did, and do, and it’s pretty great. I still want mobile hotpsot sometimes, and for that I just bought a hotspot from freedompop and I use their free tier for 500mb a month.
So for me StraightTalk is sandwiched between the $40 and $50 plans of Virgin Mobile, while it has twice the data 5GB vs. 2.5GB
And I am on AT&T’s network, whereas Virgin Mobile is on sprint.
