When I reviewed SanDisk’s new Lightning to USB flash drive for iPhone back in April, I noted it was one of the best yet. Today the company is launching a new product that essentially offers the same functionality— extra storage for files that you can access from a companion iOS app— but in the form factor of a sleek iPhone 6/6s case.
The benefit of the design compared to the old thumb drive style is an always attached solution for extra storage that will stay out of the way a little better than having a flash drive sticking out of the bottom of your phone.
I noted previously in my review of SanDisk’s iXpand Lightning to USB flash drive that the wraparound design of that device allows it to play nicely with most third-party cases. You can also use it without a case at all, but otherwise the new Memory Case seems like a more thoughtful design for everyday use.
Another added benefit is an optional 1900mAh battery pack ($40) that can be purchased and snapped onto the back of the Memory Case. That makes it a sort of all-in-one solution for extra memory and power, not unlike similar products on the market like Mophie’s Space Pack product.
SanDisk has a new iOS app for the product where you can view and manage files and monitor battery life for the optional battery pack:
The expand Memory Case is available in four color options for iPhone 6 and iPhone 6s and 32GB ($59), 64GB ($99), and 128GB ($129) capacities.
