With iOS 10, Apple is officially bringing support for lyrics to the Music application. Currently, it’s unclear how Apple is aggregating those lyrics, whether it be from other lyric websites or from record labels and artists directly. Nevertheless, a new job listing discovered by MBW suggests that Apple is looking to expand its team of “lyrics curators” with a new manager.
According to the job listing, the manager would work out of Apple’s main campus, working with a team to improve Apple’s lyric offerings. Specifically, Apple asks that applicants have a “passion for technology and a will to question the current workflows with the mindset to improve tools and processes,” as well as “general understanding, love, and ideally, experience in writing lyrics.”
The manager would be responsible for leading a “team of lyrics curators” and “possessing an excellent writing skills, music knowledge, and attention to detail.” Finally, all applicants must have at least five years of experience.

It’s unclear exactly what would be asked of this lyrics manager and how their efforts would ultimately affect the end experience for iOS 10 users. Following the introduction of iOS 10, however, we speculated that lyric annotation support, similar to that of popular website Genius, could be something Apple might bring to its own lyrics integration. This would be more likely if Apple is transcribing lyrics in-house.
If Apple is indeed simply scraping lyrics from other lyric websites, though, this position could simply refer to someone leading a team of curators who are responsible for nothing more than scraping content.
