iOS 18 was officially released to the public last week, but we’re still learning more about all of the new features and changes. Here are a few additional tidbits on improvements to FaceTime, changes to the Wallet app, and more.
In the Wallet app, Apple says that iOS 18 has a clever new feature to help prevent fraud when adding an ID to your iPhone:
To help prevent fraud, when adding an ID to your iPhone, you may be asked to take a Live Photo instead of, or in addition to, conducting a series of head and facial movements. The Live Photo is evaluated by your device and Apple to help ensure that the photo being submitted is of a live person and that the same live person is submitting their photo.
iOS 18 also includes a couple of changes to the Camera app. You can now shoot video while playing audio out of your iPhone. Additionally, music will keep playing via Bluetooth when taking a photo or video.
Music will continue to play via Bluetooth connections when capturing a photo or video.
Finally, Apple says that it has improved how FaceTime works in Low Data Mode:
FaceTime in Low Data Mode now uses more data when network conditions are good for improved video call quality.
iOS 18 is available to all of the same iPhone models that can run iOS 17. If you haven’t already, you can head to the Settings app, choose General, then choose Software Update.
Update September 24, 2024: Apple appears to have disabled the new Siri update for cars without CarPlay in the most recent releases of iOS 18 and iOS 18.1. We’ll update this story if it comes back!
