Kino 1.2 adds Camera Control features, Grade preset sorting, and more

The team behind Halide is back with an update to their video capture app Kino. Version 1.2 introduces support for Camera Control on iPhone 16, high frame rate support tuned for iPhone 16 Pro, and a new app icon that’s less HAL 9000 and more film reel-inspired. The update also adds the ability to organize Grade presets — apparently a highly requested user feature.

First off, the new Kino icon, which is iOS 18 tinting optimized:

For comparison, the OG icon:

OK, I can’t resist. Kino dropped HAL 9000 (generally a good call says Dave) for a Galactic Empire TIE Fighter. Admit it, you see it too. Fine, back to Earth we go.

From the department of new features (and thus, news) in Kino 1.2:

  • High frame rate capture of up to 120 fps — including graded footage — and 4K 120 fps with iPhone 16 Pro
  • Camera Control exposure adjustment, focus selection, and grade switching
  • Optional Camera Control lock to prevent accidental input like Halide introduced
  • Grade sorting that extends to Camera Control access
  • Localization for Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish and Traditional Chinese

Kino 1.2 is a free update for existing customers. For new customers, the excellent video capture app worthy of iPhone hardware remains a one-time purchase of $9.99 — no subscription, ads, or tracking. Download from the App Store.
