You can now get an Apple Watch Series 10 (mostly) free as a reward for exercise

Many Apple Watch buyers have aspirations of improving their health with the new device. But John Hancock offers a program that provides a much bigger incentive to do so. With its Vitality Plus life insurance program, you can now get an (almost) free Apple Watch Series 10 just for exercising.

Apple Watch as a reward for regular exercise

John Hancock was one of the first companies to offer members a nearly free Apple Watch in exchange for regular exercise. The company and its members have found a lot of success with the program, which is over 7 years old now.

New Watch models are added regularly as they’re released. And John Hancock just announced that the Apple Watch Series 10 has now been added.

That means you can get an Apple Watch Series 10 for the almost-free cost of just $25—but only if you stay active.

How to get your $25 Apple Watch Series 10

You can find full details on the Vitality Plus program for earning an Apple Watch via John Hancock’s website.

Here’s a quick rundown of what you need to do:

  1. Register for a Vitality member account and complete the Vitality Health Review (VHR).
  2. Order your Apple Watch of choice with an initial $25 payment.
  3. Track your activity by wearing the Watch and earn Vitality points that can eliminate any remaining payments toward the Watch balance.

The program is all about rewarding your results. As a result, the cost of the Watch will be split up over two years, and you’ll need to earn enough Vitality points to ‘pay off’ that balance. Staying active for those two years will mean you make no additional payments.

However, if you get your Watch and end up not earning enough Vitality points in a given month, you’ll be subject to a payment.

If you’re interested in a different type of Apple Watch model, you can also get an Apple Watch Ultra 2 or Apple Watch SE through the program. Your model of choice can adjust the number of Vitality points you need to earn in a given month.

For an Apple Watch Series 10, you need 500 Vitality points per month to avoid any extra payments. That amounts to about 25 ‘standard’ workouts per month, or 16 ‘advanced’ workouts. But keep in mind, you can earn Vitality points for more than just formal workouts. Things like your step count come into play too, for example.

The full rubric of points and how you earn them is available here.
