iOS 18.2 expands AirPods Pro 2 hearing aid and testing features to more countries

AirPods Pro 2 gained hearing aid capabilities with iOS 18.1, which was released to the public in October. Users can run a test to detect potential hearing loss and then use the results to adjust their own AirPods so that they function as hearing aids. With iOS 18.2, which will be released to the public in the next few days, the company is expanding these features to more countries.

iOS 18.2 enables AirPods hearing health features in more countries

Apple confirmed the expansion in the release notes for iOS 18.2 Release Candidate (RC), which was released to developers and public beta testers on Thursday. With the update, Apple is enabling the Hearing Aid feature for AirPods Pro 2 users in the United Arab Emirates. When it comes to the Hearing Test, the feature is coming to multiple new countries, which are:

  • Cyprus
  • Czechia
  • France
  • Italy
  • Luxembourg
  • Romania
  • Spain
  • United Arab Emirates
  • United Kingdom

These countries join the list of more than 100 countries and regions where the new hearing health features for AirPods Pro 2 are already available.

AirPods Pro 2 users can take a hearing test right from their iPhone. Where available, users can turn their AirPods into clinical-grade hearing aids with settings based on the results of their hearing test. This feature helps people hear sounds and voices around them more clearly.

Apple also provides a Hearing Protection feature for AirPods Pro 2, which automatically reduces louder and more intermittent sounds that can damage your hearing. This feature, however, remains available exclusively in the U.S. and Canada. The full list of supported countries can be found on Apple’s official website.

Apple hasn’t provided details on when exactly iOS 18.2 will be released to the public, but given that an RC build is now available to beta testers, this should happen as early as next week.
