Apple TV+ hit comedy named one of 10 best TV shows of the year

This year Apple TV+ has really hit its stride, and end of year awards are starting to recognize that. One prestigious body has just named a hit Apple TV+ comedy one of the 10 best TV shows of the year.

AFI’s 10 best TV shows of 2024

The American Film Institute annually publishes a list of the 10 best films and 10 best TV shows of the year.

This year, Shrinking made the list of TV show honorees.

Here’s the full list:

  • Abbott Elementary
  • The Bear
  • Hacks
  • A Man on the Inside
  • Mr. & Mrs. Smith
  • Nobody Wants This
  • The Penguin
  • Shōgun
  • Shrinking
  • True Detective: Night Country

This isn’t the first time AFI has recognized an Apple TV+ series in its end of year honorees. In 2023, The Morning Show made the list, 2022’s list recognized Pachinko and Severance, and in 2021 Ted Lasso received the honor.

Why you should watch Shrinking

Shrinking Apple TV+

Shrinking hails from Bill Lawrence, one of the co-creators of the biggest Apple TV+ success, Ted Lasso. Lawrence also co-created this summer’s fun Bad Monkey.

Shrinking is currently airing its second season, which has been just as strong as the first thanks to the excellent ensemble cast.

The series is consistently at the top of the Apple TV+ charts, but if you haven’t watched it yet, here’s a brief summary from Apple of what to expect:

Shrinking follows a grieving therapist who starts to break the rules and tell his clients exactly what he thinks. Ignoring his training and ethics, he finds himself making huge, tumultuous changes to people’s lives … including his own.

Harrison Ford in a comedic role is one of my favorite parts of the show, but the entire cast is great—similar to Ted Lasso’s strong ensemble.

If you haven’t yet watched Shrinking, but liked Ted Lasso or Bad Monkey, you’re missing out. It’s available now on Apple TV+.
