This realistic concept shows what the iPhone 17 Air might look like in real life

We’ve been hearing a lot of rumors about an “iPhone 17 Air” recently as Apple seems to be working on an ultra-slim iPhone to be announced later this year. After seeing some low-resolution leaked images showing the back of this new iPhone, a realistic concept now gives us a better idea of what it will look like in real life.

iPhone 17 Air concept

Created by WEIS Studio, the concept imagines what the iPhone 17 Air would look like in a person’s hands. The device in the concept is based on the latest leaks, which suggest that the phone will be just 5.5 millimeters thick. For comparison, the iPhone 16 Pro is 8.25 mm, while the iPhone 6 – the thinnest iPhone ever released – was 6.9 mm.

Another aspect shown by the concept is the single-lens rear camera with a “bar” design, which looks quite different from any current iPhone. This is also in line with the leaked image of the iPhone 17 Air’s back part.

The concept makes the idea of an iPhone 17 Air even more impressive. If the rumors are true, the new iPhone could be as thin as the M4 iPad Pro, which is 5.3 mm thick in its 11-inch version. Analysts believe that Apple wants to build an ultra-thin iPhone to boost sales as the thinner design would be more compelling for customers who aren’t tempted to buy another conventional phone.

I honestly do not understand why someone would want a thin device like that? I can totally understand screen size changes and even square vs rounded edges.. but ultra thin device that looks like it would break just by setting it down on a desk?? Ian Malcolm's quote comes to mind: "Your scientists were so preoccupied with whether or not they could, they didn't stop to think if they should." Seems to fit this device perfectly.

Rumors suggest that the iPhone 17 Air will replace the “Plus” model, sitting between the base iPhone 17 model and the iPhone 17 Pro. Despite the bolder design, the iPhone 17 Air will have some hardware compromises compared to the Pro models due to its slimness. Apple may have to give up extra camera lenses on the rear and a large capacity battery.

iPhone 17 Air is expected to have a 6.6-inch OLED display with a higher refresh rate – possibly 90Hz instead of 120Hz like the Pro models. The new phone will also feature Apple’s in-house 5G modem, which is rumored to be introduced next week with iPhone SE 4. Combined with the A19 chip, the modem should help the phone consume less battery.

The iPhone 17 family is expected to be announced later this year. What are your thoughts on this iPhone 17 Air? Let us know in the comments section below.
