Apple’s F1 movie expected to hit $300M at the box office this weekend

Less than two weeks after its release, Apple’s F1 The Movie is about to cross the $300 million mark at the global box office. That puts it more than halfway to topping the combined worldwide grosses of all its previous theatrical runs, and validates its ambitions for big screen releases.

On track for a record run

During its opening weekend, F1 The Movie is estimated to have taken in about $145 million, which put it on par with the $176 million opening weekend total box office of Killers of the Flower Moon, Napoleon, Argylle, and Fly Me to the Moon.

To put things in perspective, this wasn’t just a record for Apple Original Films, but also the strongest opening of Brad Pitt’s career.

Now, as reported by the Financial Times, the film is on pace to comfortably surpass the $517 million combined global box office of Apple’s previous theatrical releases.

The Financial Times also notes that this box office run might mark another theatrical milestone for Apple: turning a profit on a big-budget movie.

“Apple is also nearing another potential milestone: making money from a big-budget movie. F1, co-produced by Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment (now controlled by French media group Mediawan) and Jerry Bruckheimer Films, had a production budget of more than $200mn, and distribution costs are estimated at more than $50mn.“

As for when F1 The Movie will be made available on Apple TV, the company hasn’t officially announced its plans yet. However, you can find the details on the likely release window here.

Apple TV+ is available for $12.99 per month and features hit TV shows and movies like The StudioThe Morning ShowShrinking and Silo.
