Apple has lost ground in this year’s edition of the Fortune Global 500, mirroring a similar slip in the U.S.-centric Fortune 500 list released last month. Here are the details.
UnitedHealth overtakes Apple for the second time this year
While Apple remains in the top 10, it was overtaken by UnitedHealth Group, which moved up from 8th to 7th this year.
Interestingly, this exact shuffle also happened on the Fortune 500 U.S. list back in June, when UnitedHealth edged past Apple for third place among American corporations.
Here’s this year’s top 10 in Fortune’s Global 500 list:

Fortune says that its ranking takes into account total revenues for each company’s respective fiscal year ended on or before March 31, as reported to a government agency.
And while last year’s Global 500 companies brought in a combined $41 trillion in revenue, up just 0.1% year-over-year, this year’s total revenue reached $41.7 trillion, up 1.8%.
In a press release issued today, Fortune said:
“The financial sector continues to dominate the list, with 121 companies at the forefront, followed by energy (79), motor vehicles and parts (35), technology (34), and healthcare (33). Together, these sectors represent 60% of the companies on the list and account for 66% of the total revenue generated.”
Specifically in the tech sector, Fortune noted that Amazon, Apple, Alphabet, Microsoft, Meta, Nvidia and Tesla brought in an aggregate revenue of S2 trillion, and $484 billion in net income.
